"More than 88,000 members, one passion:
Experiencing the mountains together."

Since 1946 - with heart in the mountains, with a sense for the future.

The Edelweiss section was founded in 1946 as part of the Austrian Alpine Club. Today, it is one of the largest and most active sections in Austria. The section’s first hut was the Tappenkarseehütte (1954), followed by the Alois-Günther-Haus (1964), the Edelweisshütte (1960) and the Wismeyerhaus (1969). Several of these huts were awarded the ÖAV environmental seal of approval and other sustainability seals. The incorporation of the former Wiener Lehrer section in 2009 led to the addition of further high-alpine mountain huts, including the Adolf-Noßberger-Hütte and the Hochschoberhütte.

Since 2022, the Edelweiss section has also been certified in accordance with the Austrian Ecolabel for educational institutions
